My work begins with affection for the value of storytelling. Storytelling is where our humanity lies.
Gemma grew up in the proper country of the UK before moving to the US, and has lived in LA, MA, and PA ever since. She is a queer writer and journalist, passionate about documenting stories on mental health and trauma normalization, queer education, and navigating this wacky wonderful world collectively. She speaks widely on the topics of queer, POC, and AAPI communities. Her work has been featured on Times Square Chronicles in NYC, where she was a lead writer for her original news column, Gemma's Gem of the Week. Since then, she has been accepted to the Yale Writers' Workshop two summers in a row in 21' and 22'. She published her debut poetry book entitled The Shape of Something New in 2020, and is currently working on her first non-fiction novel dedicated to mental health awareness. Gemma is an avid lover of traveling, hiking, Halloween, and playing air drums/guitar to Queen's music in private.
More often than not, most projects start out as one big blurb. It's okay if it takes time to develop the structure of your story. It's also okay to scream at the wall every now and then.
Probably one of the most daunting words for a writer to hear. However, discipline can be simplified into writing a couple days a week for a few minutes. Or you might pick up discipline and throw it in the trash; depends on the day.
